What are some good recipes for someone who wants to start learning to make desserts and pastries? by @caramelodrama

Answer by Carolina Garofani:

Well, I’m a professional baker and I got brigadeiro wrong every single time until a couple of years ago. I don’t work with condensed milk, so lack of experience is probably the reason.

Anyways, what are you waiting for?

What are you afraid of?

Baking a cake is not rocket science. You probably do a lot of stuff that is more difficult than that. Start out with cookies if you feel insecure. They’re hard to get wrong, and warm, freshly-baked cookies are never a bad thing, even if they come out weird.

Explore the websites. Find something that catches your eye (and makes your mouth water) and just do it. If it comes out wrong, well, you can always try again.

I like Martha Stewart’s website because she has gazillions of easy recipes published, with clear instructions and pretty photos:

Then move on to brownies, they’re really easy too:

If you’re feeling adventurous, try a pound cake, they have a 1:1:1:1 ratio that is really easy to memorize and work with. Equal weights of flour, sugar, eggs and butter.

Fluffy and delicious:

Stop being afraid of this. There’s no reason to. Life is happier when you bake, and your friends love you more.

Now, go bake!
